The Flawed Architect is a FPS and psychological horror game.
We begin the game in a house. Our mum and dad are on holiday in Mexico. We’re all alone in the house, and the worst possible thing is happening: a nuclear disaster.
As the game is a psychological horror title, there are no jump scare sequences. The game guides us through the house and its dark corridors, fully immersing us in the feeling of being alone. Within the game, there is a creature, a divine power. The game’s title derives from this. The concept of the Architect symbolises a power that creates everything but leaves flaws in its creation.
The game’s mechanics work very well. Whilst playing, I didn’t encounter any bugs or experience any crashes. The game plays wonderfully. It’s much better to play the game with a good pair of headphones because there are plenty of unsettling sounds, and you need to be drawn into the atmosphere and become fully immersed.
Although the game is very short, it throws you straight into one event after another. For example, you might be watching television at home one moment and find yourself charging at the enemy on the front line the next. The pacing is beautifully balanced, and this combination of depth and variation can create a real sense of shock.
The storytelling, sound effects, music, atmosphere, gameplay, horror elements… Everything is excellent. My only complaint about the game is why it’s so short, because once you’ve finished it, you’re left wanting more.
If you’re looking for a psychological, P.T.-style game with cosmic horror, short but impactful then you absolutely, without a doubt, need to check this one out, as it will provide you with an incredible experience.
