Anaria: Reborn is a first-person shooter, horror and puzzle game.
Our game begins inside a building, in a flat. It is dark and deserted. We hear some whispers. We think we are hallucinating, but we are mistaken. There is a doll on our heels, and it wants to ‘play a game’ with us, but this doll’s games are a little different.
Anaria: Reborn has executed almost everything you’d expect from a horror game exceptionally well and with great finesse. The game’s balance of horror and suspense is maintained right through to the very end. The horror elements are placed very skilfully. There’s nothing the game does poorly in this regard.
As for the level design, I can’t say it’s particularly good. We find ourselves wandering through corridors and rooms that all look alike. This is the case at the start of the game, though it does vary towards the end. We can’t use weapons in the game. We just run away. If you’re thinking, ‘Wouldn’t constantly running away from a doll get boring?’, the game manages to keep you engaged. We owe this to the curiosity of ‘what on earth will happen next?’.
I have nothing negative to say about the game’s atmosphere. It’s truly very compelling and terrifying. The game does an excellent job of keeping you on edge and scaring you. However, in some places, the game is very dark. There may be moments where you can’t see what’s ahead.
There are also some puzzle sections within the game. These puzzles are never difficult. They’re simple little puzzles that can be easily completed.
I have nothing negative to say about the game’s story either. It has a very well-written script. This really draws players in. It’s truly excellent.
